Miracle baby born without a brain turns 2 (Uploaded December 2010- I couldn’t find out if he is still alive from a quick Google search)

Nicholas Coke was born with a rare condition called anencephaly that caused him to never grow a brain, only a brain stem. Doctors gave him just a few hours to live and miraculously this baby just celebrated his 2nd birthday.

This little cutie’s name is Chris. He has Down Syndrome and he goes to the daycare/preschool that I work at. He is adorable—when you tickle his belly or his neck, he just squirms with delight and giggles a little belly laugh. :)
You know how some people think that people with disabilities just don’t know anything? Well today, I found this to be WRONG. I was picking up the toys and putting them away, but in order to put them away I have to pick them up, walk into another room, open a safety gate and put them in the right bin of toys for the right age group. I did that twice, and then left a few toys out because a few kids were still playing while waiting for their parents to come pick them up.
I turned around, and Chris had picked up the rest of the toys in his tiny little arms, and I watched as he copied my actions—walked into the next room, opened the safety gate (smart kid!! haha) and put the toys in the right bin! I was so surprised and excited and happy, I almost cried. People with disabilities are not stupid, they are smart and talented and happy. THEY ARE PEOPLE, before anything. Their disabilities do not define them. Chris is such a joy to me, and I hope this gets reblogged because I hate when people are judged or defined or ignored because of their disability.
Love you Chris, you are such a joy!!! :)

Respect yourself enough to walk away from anything that no longer serves you, grows you, or makes you happy.

WHEEEEE!! Just got this book in the mail. I’ll have to let you know if it’s any good later, though. Stupid CanFitPro is taking up my time lately. But if you can judge a book by its cover, I’m pretty damn excited.
